It starts with telling a story...but as we’ve all learned, telling the story isn’t always enough. Bringing people and teams together to share and sell it is critical to deliver needed impact. Through socialization, business cases, cost/benefit analysis, presentations and reports I have moved projects from concept to production/release.
For more than 20 years, I have been designing the answers of people and process – always learning about what we do and asking why. Driven and curious, improvements to the design/redesign of things we do/use are always running through my head. When researched and ideated, those designs are delivered as sketches, infographics, wire frames and prototypes – whatever is needed to best tell the story.
It is not enough to just conceptualize a plan; it needs to be researched, created, prototyped, built, tested and executed – quickly and on budget. With experience in self-delivery, as well as leadership of cross-functional teams, I have delivered projects with budgets from zero to several million dollars. Together we can do this. Let's tell your story.
…it’s just that simple. If a website is difficult to use, users leave. If the homepage doesn’t clearly state what users can do on the site, users leave. If the content is hard to read, they’ll leave. Users will not spend much time trying to figure out an interface. After all, there are plenty of other websites to out there. For intranets, usability is a matter of employee productivity. Time spent “stuck” on your intranet is money you waste by paying them to be at work, not getting work done. Doubling usability means cutting training budgets in half and/or doubling the number of transactions employees perform per hour. For external sites, think of doubling sales, the number of registered users, customer leads, etc. Management of expert user groups, card sort studies, heuristic reviews, prototype testing, mobile device testing and more.
Overall user experience is more than just using a product. It is “designing” how a user perceives, interacts and learns, as well as uses a product. My experience has focused on designing simple, elegant design solutions of user interfaces, websites and applications by defining products around the advantages and benefits that are most important to their users. UX/UXD deliverables and activities include: brand experience strategies, style guides, competitive assessments, ideation and JAD sessions. Storyboards, screen flows, wireframes and interactive prototypes.
From out-front, customer facing to behind-the-scenes, service design improves the experiences of both the employee and the user by thoughtfully designing an organization’s operations and communications to help optimize customer journeys. When behind-the-scenes problems exist, they have “out-front” consequences: poor service, inconsistencies and unhappy customers. Seamlessly joining backstage processes improves your employees’ experience, and allows them to create a better user experience for your customers.
While solving the problems of today, we need to take into account where we have been, so we can create something that also works for the future. Everything I design is with thoughtful purpose. The systems and solutions I design not only solve business problems, but also help create a future direction and vision to follow. This helps to fulfill the needs, meet the goals and take advantage of the opportunities ahead.
From one person, to a small team, to enterprise-level projects, managing change is key to the success of any project. Gathering the right data, creating the messages that outline the advantages and benefits to organizing and managing resources to achieve defined goals – the projects I have led have been delivered on-time, on-budget and with stakeholder satisfaction.
Great IA empowers a great design and its content to shine. Creating structure and meaning out of information is critical successful system design. I design sites, applications and systems that allow users to do more than just navigate, they let users explore and master quickly and easily. Any project can be rendered useless if “connecting the dots” is confusing or unnecessarily complex. My skills empower me to share the story and the vision in simple, elegant designs of infrastructure projects to user interfaces, websites and applications.
